What is jahia_journal table used for, and can it be purged?

Answer

jahia_journal table keeps a full log of all operations made on Jahia so that it can be replayed if you are using the remote publication feature.
If you are not using remote publishing and are not planning to use it later, you can disable it completely (and also the journal service, which populates the above mentioned DB table), by adding the following entry into the <digital-factory-config>/jahia/jahia.custom.properties (or jahia.properties):

jahia.remotePublicationService.enabled=false

You'll need to restart DX server after that change.
You can also purge the content of that table (delete from jahia_journal;)
