Copy to other languages

September 8, 2025

The "copy to other languages" module (CTOL), available on the Jahia store, provides enhanced capabilities to fasten editors work in a multilang context.

This module, when activated on a site, brings the following new features

  • Copy all the values or all the fields of a content item, from one language to one or several languages, at once
This action is available in Content Editor, in the main toolbar
  • Copy a specific field value from one language to the same field in one or several languages at once
This action is available in front of each field, in the 3 dots menu

Note that the per field action appears only when a field is internationalized (can have different values in different languages). Obviously, if a field is already defined as the same in all languages in it's definition, then the CTOL action makes not sense.

In both cases (copying all the fields or copying a single field) the editor will see a floating window to choose the destination languages. The source language will always be the one that was displayed when calling the CTOL feature.

There are two main reasons to use this module

  • When a content must be accessible in several languages, even if not translated. Using CTOL is much faster than copying a field value and pasting it in each targeted language switching in the interface. The more languages have to be filled, the more CTOL will save time.
  • When a content must be translated, it is sometimes easier to copy an initial value from a language that the editor/translator understands than switching every minute from one language to another in the interface. Copied values act as guideline for editors that will then rewrite the content in the same GUI in the targeted language.

Warning : when using the CTOL module the copy happens even if a field is already filled by a value. All values will be replaced by the values copied from the source language, not only if the fields are empty.
