Managing visitor profiles

November 14, 2023

In jExperience, an audience is your entire population of visitors, whether they are anonymous or identified. A profile is a record of a unique visitor. This topic explains how to create condition filters to search audience information and save filters as a segment or static list.

Viewing visitor profiles, contacts, and leads

The All visitors profiles page shows you information about your repository of visitors and statistics about your site traffic. Here you can search and view visitor, contact, and lead information. jExperience indicates the number of visitor, contact, and lead profiles that are stored in the profile repository.

jExperience divides your audience into the following categories:

  • Visitors
All visitors who came at least once to your site. This population can be very large and can contain many nearly empty and fake profiles due to spammers or automated bot visits.
  • Contacts
Visitors on whom jExperience has collected at least one data point that allows you to start a direct conversation: email address, telephone, address, Facebook ID, LinkedIn ID, and Twitter ID. A contact does not require a visitor name.
  • Leads
Contacts assigned to someone responsible for engaging with the contact, usually in a sales process.
Note: Contacts and leads are prebuilt segments included with jExperience by default. They respect conditions that you can customize.

To view visitor profiles, contacts, and leads:

  1. In jExperience, navigate to Global>Audience>Profiles. The All visitors profiles page displays.

  2. To show all profiles, click the All visitors profiles tab.
  3. To display a subset of your audience, click the Contacts or Leads tab. The Contacts and Leads pages provide more details than the All visitors page because more data has been collected about visitors belonging to these groups.

  4. To change columns the display in the grid, click the grid icon
and select or clear columns that you want to display.

Searching profiles

You can search your profile repository by performing a full text search or by creating condition filters.

Performing a full text search

Full text search is a convenient way to find profiles when you do not need a granular search. To get a more precise view of your visitors, you should use condition filters. Full text search is:

  • performed on all profile properties, not only on the name property or profiles that display in the search results. You may have to view an individual profile's details to see the property that matches the search term.
  • not case sensitive. For example, paris=Paris and PaRis=Paris.

To perform a full text search:

  1. Type the search terms you are looking for in the search field. Matching profiles display under the search field as you type. For example, the search for the name Henry returns two results.

In the next example, the search for the city Paris returns one result.

  2. To view and edit profile details, click on the Edit profile edit button. In the example, you can see that the visitor lives in Paris (the value for City is Paris), which is why this profile appears in the search results.

  3. To assign a profile to one or more static lists, click on the list icon list , which is more convenient than using the profile page if you have multiple profiles to assign.

Using a condition filter to search

Create condition filters to search visitor profiles. After searching, you can save the filter as a segment or static list.

When you filter by condition, search criteria applies until you cancel the search. For example, if you choose the Contacts or Leads tabs, the list updates to show contacts or leads that match your search in those segments. You do not have to recreate your search when moving from one tab to another.

Note: You use the condition builder to create condition filters.

To use a condition filter to search:

  1. In jExperience, select Global>Audience>Profiles. The All visitors profiles page displays.
  2. Click Filter by condition.
  3. In the dialog, use the condition builder to filter by profile, visitor behavior, or properties saved for the visitor. Click one of Profiling, Behavioral, or Visitor property and create a condition filter. For more information, see Creating conditions.

  5. To narrow the filter results, enter a search term in the Search box. Filter results updated as you type.
  6. To edit the current filter, click Edit condition filter. Here you edit the filter for the condition category that you have already selected.
  7. To create a new filter, click Clear and then click Filter by condition.
  8. To create a new segment from the condition filter:
    1. Click Save results>Save as segment.
    2. In the Save as segment dialog, enter a name and description for the segment.

    3. To enable the segment immediately, leave the Enabled box selected. To share the segment with other sites, select Shared. See Managing dynamic segments for more information.
    4. Click Create.
  9. To create a static list that contains all the visitors returned by the filter:
    1. Click Filter by condition>Visitor profile and enter search criteria. For example, to save all new visitors where the first visit occurred in the month of January 2021, you would search as.

Then, save the search results in a new list for use later for a personalized drip campaign. Storing this search as a segment would not make much sense, because once the month of June is complete the list remains the same.
    2. Click Save results>Save as static list.
    3. In the Save as static list dialog, enter a name and description for the static list.

    4. To share the static list with other sites, select Shared. See Managing static lists for more information.
    5. Click OK.
  10. To remove all active search filters, click Cancel search.
